Sanabria Zucchini Seeds: Overview

Sanabria zucchini is a cultivated variety of Cucurbita pepo that is favored by home gardeners for its reliable growth habit and consistent fruit quality. The seeds are typically sold in small packets and are suitable for sowing directly in the garden, in raised beds, or in containers such as grow bags.

Characteristics of the Plant

Plants grown from Sanabria zucchini seeds develop a bushy habit, usually reaching a height of 45–60 cm. The leaves are large, lobed, and a deep green color. Fruits are cylindrical, smooth‑skinned, and typically measure 15–20 cm in length when harvested at the optimal stage. The skin is a uniform dark green, and the flesh is pale white with a mild, slightly sweet flavor.

Sowing the Seeds

Successful germination begins with proper seed preparation and planting timing.

When to Sow

In temperate climates, sow seeds after the last expected frost when soil temperatures have risen to at least 18 °C (65 °F). This usually falls between late April and early June, depending on the region. In warmer zones, a second planting can be made in mid‑summer for a fall harvest.

How to Sow

  1. Prepare a well‑draining seed‑starting mix or loamy garden soil amended with compost.
  2. Plant seeds 2–3 cm deep, spacing them about 60 cm apart if sowing directly in the ground.
  3. For containers or grow bags, use a pot with a minimum volume of 10 L and place one seed per container.
  4. Water gently after planting to settle the soil around the seed.
  5. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged until germination, which typically occurs within 7–10 days.
